Three aging boilers were replaced at the Fenimore House Museum in Cooperstown to meet current Code requirements, improve environmental conditions and reduce operating costs for energy and maintenance. During construction, a buried areaway was built near the front porch to allow access to the Boiler Room. This eliminated disturbance to the Museum's normal operating hours and visitor access. When work was complete, the areaway was capped as a base for a flagstone handicap walk. The walk is removable to accommodate future access. Throughout the construction period, temperature and humidity levels were maintained in the Museum, allowing protection for the temperature-sensitive art and artifacts. In order to improve the air quality and temperature for the production department of Rome Strip Steel, an analysis of the existing circumstances was prepared and improvements recommended. Gas-fired make-up air and heat recovery units were installed. This required extensive inside ductwork and piping modifications along with extensive rigging outside. The plant was fully operational during construction and the work was accomplished with minimum disruption. In order to assure customer access and safety at the Bank of Utica's downtown Utica location, approximately 240 square yards of concrete pavement and an embedded hot water snow melting system were removed and replaced on a steeply sloping approach to the Bank's drive-through windows. The entire project, from design through construction, was completed in twelve weeks, and two of the three windows were kept operational at all times, minimizing customer inconvenience.
